The Medical Director for the BayCare Medical Group is Richard B. Fox, M.D., J.D. Dr. Fox obtained his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He then did a three year residency in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. He then did a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology (lung diseases such as asthma and cystic fibrosis) at the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado and the Webb-Waring Lung Institute at the University of Colorado, doing basic research into the role of certain white blood cell in the host defense mechanisms of the lung and in lung injury. Following his fellowship, Dr. Fox became an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado. In 1982 he took a position as Assistant Professor in the Pulmonary and Cell Biology Section of the Boston Children’s Hospital and the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1986 Dr. Fox took a position as the head of the Pulmonary Department at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital and as the Associate Director of the Intensive Care Unit of that hospital. In 1989 Dr. Fox relocated to Los Gatos, California where he has been in private practice since that time, specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine for both children and adults since that time. In July of 2023 Dr. Fox also became the part-time Pediatric Medical Director for Throne Biotechnologies, a biotech start-up that has developed a stem cell-based treatment that appears to treat a broad range of autoimmune diseases in both children and adults and may be FDA-approved by the end of 2023.
